Saturday is a big day for Watertown High School basketball, with both the boy’s and girl’s teams playing for North Section championships at Lowell’s Tsongas Center. Follow the action live on Watertown News!
The boy’s team has made it to Lowell a number of times under Steve Harrington, but not since 2011. That year the team, led by Marco Coppola, beat Newburyport on the way to the state final. Today the Raiders take on Middlesex League foe Stoneham, a team which Watertown has beaten by 29 and 32 points this season. The boy’s game tips at 12:15 p.m.
Next up, the Watertown takes on Arlington Catholic in the girl’s section final. Last year, the girl’s made an unexpected run that ended in Lowell against Pentucket. This year coach Patrick Ferdinand has brought the Raiders back to Lowell as the top seed in the section. The team is led by senior guard Gabriella Coppola, Marco’s sister. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
