A battle between two teams linked through history and circumstance needed overtime to decide, and the outcome for Watertown proved to be a tough one to digest.
The Raiders seemed to have Cardinal Spellman on the ropes during the Div. 3 EMass boy’s basketball final at TD Garden on Tuesday. Spellman, however, used the memory of a former player who died playing on the courts of the Watertown Summer Basketball League last summer to inspire an 11 point comeback to tie the state semifinal game and pull away in overtime, 51-44.

Budding basketball players growing up in Watertown don’t have far to look for inspiration – just head to the WHS gym.
Senior guard Cesar Fulcar recalls watching the Raiders growing up, and today it will be he and his Raider teammates’ turn to play in the Garden in the MIAA Div. 3 EMass Final (and state semifinal).

Watertown captain Gabriella Coppola walked up and took the North Section runners-up trophy Saturday but she could not even muster a grin after the game against Arlington Catholic in Lowell on Saturday.

The Raiders will return to a familiar place after a three year hiatus after Watertown defeated Stoneham 48-34 in the MIAA Div. 3 North Section final at the Tsongas Center on Saturday.
Saturday is a big day for Watertown High School basketball, with both the boy’s and girl’s teams playing for North Section championships at Lowell’s Tsongas Center. Follow the action live on Watertown News!

With the Watertown girl’s basketball team’s 51-39 victory over Hamilton-Wenham on Thursday night in Chelmsford, the Raiders set up a big day for Watertown hoops fans on Saturday.
The Watertown boy’s basketball team won in the state tournament on Wednesday, while the girl’s hockey team fell.

The Raiders basketball and ice hockey teams all enjoyed wins in their first games in the MIAA state tournament over the weekend.
Watertown High School’s boys’ and girls’ hockey teams both earned high seeds in the MIAA state tournament, and one will skate at home.
